CONTINUING ITS GROWTH, BUT FIRMLY RETAINING ITS STRONG FAMILY ROOTS.
GBM HISTORY
GBM Consulting is proud to be a family owned and operated business, with strong roots in the Sunraysia region.
What began as a small earthmoving/asphalt business is today a dynamic and agile company that has become a well-respected leader in civil construction.
Established by Graham and Penny Marks in 1996, GBM Consulting is named after Graham, whose full name is Graham Bernard Marks. Graham built the business on the skills he honed during his 23-year career with Mildura Rural City Council, where he started in 1973 as a Draughtsman/Engineering Assistant before rising through the ranks to become the Construction Supervisor.
The business was initially operated from a home office, with equipment stored at a yard on Ontario Avenue, Mildura. The first piece of equipment was a roller purchased in 1996. All other machinery needed to fulfill contracts was hired, or sub-contractors were engaged.
By 2000, GBM Consulting had established a strong reputation as a reliable local business that could deliver on time and within budget. Business expansion led to the purchase of a block in Allen Drive, Irymple, where Graham stored equipment and had a small office in at Atco hut. Penny continued to complete all book work in the home office.
Continuing its growth, but firmly retaining its strong family roots, GBM Consulting was joined by Graham and Penny’s son, Jason, in 2002, and by another son, Darren, soon after.
The business went on to purchase more equipment and develop its team of professionals. This led to an office and workshop being built at the Irymple site, while an adjoining block of land was purchased for truck access and storage.
Graham and Penny stepped back from the operational side of the business in 2005, allowing Jason and Darren to take the reins and oversee an extended period of growth for GBM Consulting.
In 2010, a new asphalt paver was purchased to underpin the business’ focus on asphalt contracts. A year later, a yard on Ontario Avenue, Mildura was purchased, and a workshop and offices built.
By 2012 Jason and Darren were joint proprietors, which continued until 2014, when Jason became the sole proprietor and Darren began his own grader business.
GBM Consulting opened Mildura Garden Supplies at its Ontario Avenue site in 2015, with Jason’s wife, Emma, overseeing operations.
The business continued to evolve and in 2017, the decision was made to sell the asphalt component of GBM Consulting and focus on civil construction.
Today, GBM Consulting employs more than 20 staff, has an extensive fleet of modern trucks and equipment, and retains its position as a leader in Sunraysia’s civil construction sector.
